Why did you choose to come to AMSC?
I liked the AMSC program for its flexibility--I wasn't sure what
research area to pursue, and AMSC gives students the opportunity to
explore and has many seminars to help them find their interests. And
because it is an interdisciplinary program there are many options for
research areas in different departments. I also knew some of the faculty
in AMSC before applying, and they were extremely helpful and
supportive.

What are your research interests and why?
I am interested in asymptotic statistics, particularly in estimation
when the number of nuisance parameters goes to infinity. I think this
area of research is interesting from a theoretical perspective but also
has plenty of applications to real-world estimation problems.

What do you like to do in your free time?
Some of my hobbies include drawing, painting, bike riding, tennis, and
yoga.
What are your favorite parts of the greater Washington DC area?
My favorite spot is probably the Capital Crescent Trail. This trail
for biking or jogging goes through the Rock Creek Park from Bethesda to
Georgetown. In the trail there is nice scenery and you can occasionally
see deer, foxes, rabbits, and geese, as well as views of the Potomac
river. It leads to Georgetown which is one of the nice parts of DC
with a harbour and a view of the Kennedy Center.
What advice would you give to incoming students?
I would like to give incoming students the same advice that my AMSC
student mentor gave me--get to know a few other graduate students taking
the same classes and qualifying exams as you and help each other out. You
can learn a lot from other graduate students. Upper level graduate
students are also usually very happy to help and to give you advice on how
to succeed.
