Two Science Terp Faculty Members Named MPower Professors

The University of Maryland has announced its 2025 MPower Professors, recognizing seven faculty members—including leaders from both College Park and Baltimore campuses—who are advancing groundbreaking, collaborative research, whose work in bioinformatics, computational biology and genomic data analysis reflects the strength of interdisciplinary innovation across the university system. Each professor will receive $150,000 over three years to further strengthen their joint research efforts and drive innovation.

The 2025 awardees are working at the forefront of biomedical science, combining expertise in data science, genomics, epidemiology and public health. Cummings’ work applies machine learning and statistical methods to complex biomedical data, while Pop is known for developing widely used genomic analysis tools and advancing microbiome research.
