The Job Search: Dr. Summer Xia Hu
The graduate School runs a regular series of features on international graduate students called the Job Search. Anna De Cheke Qualls covered one of our graduates, Xia Hu.
Xia Hu discusses about her road to earn her PhD in Applied Mathematics. What started as a love of art, music, and poetry turned into a love for the artistic side of math with the “the beauty of simplicity, the cleverness of logic, and the wildness of one’s imagination” (Xia Hu). Hu talks about the language and culture challenges that came with coming to the U.S. to study and her experiences as a graduate student. She delves deeper into how she got her position as a Facebook Research Scientist and her career aspirations. She ends the interview by giving advice to other international students.
