AMSC Alum Dr. Danielle Middlebrooks Announced as a Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) 2023 Mathematically Gifted & Black (MGB) Early Career Fellow
AMSC Alum Dr. Danielle Middlebrooks (Ph.D., AMSC, 2020) was awarded the 2023 MGB-SIAM Early Career Fellow. The fellowship is awarded to individuals with “exemplary achievements; support of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their community; and commitment to industrial and applied mathematics, computational science, and data science.” This fellowship also aims to create an engagement between SIAM and racial and ethnic groups historically underrepresented in mathematical sciences.
Dr. Danielle Middlebrooks graduated from the AMSC program with a Ph.D. in 2020 with research focused in geometric and Markov chain-based methods used for analysis of data. Dr. Middlebrooks is currently a NIST Director postdoc in the Applied and Computational Mathematics Division focusing on improving mathematical techniques applying to flow cytometry and physics-based problems. She is looking forward to using the MGB-SIAM Fellowship to mentor young mathematicians from underrepresented groups while also collaborating with experienced scientists.
